Tijdens de allereerste editie streden duo\u2019s om \u20ac1000 prijzengeld en was er ook een kids solo battle (t\/m 14 jaar) met \u20ac100 te winnen. De sfeer was direct gezet:\u00a0<strong>nationale \u00e9n internationale b-boys en b-girls<\/strong>\u00a0deden mee, het niveau was hoog en een topjury beoordeelde de battles. Tussen de battles door mocht\u00a0<em>iedereen de cyphers instappen om te jammen<\/em>\u00a0op de funky beats van\u00a0<strong>DJ Cutnice<\/strong>\u00a0(een Rotterdamse legende) onder aanvoering van MC\u00a0<strong>Mario Bee<\/strong>. Deze mix van competitie en open sfeer maakte de eerste editie meteen een succes.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023 volgde een succesvolle tweede editie in Rotterdam-Zuid, waarmee Roffa Breaking zich vestigde als jaarlijks terugkerend onderdeel van RSCW. In 2024 verhuisde het festival naar het Delftsehof in het stadscentrum, en Roffa Breaking keerde terug voor een derde editie. Dit werd aangekondigd als\u00a0<em>\u201clegendarische breakdance battles\u201d<\/em>\u00a0en maakte alle verwachtingen waar.\u00a0<strong>Wereldkampioen Menno van Gorp<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Rotterdam\u2019s eigen break-icoon \u2013 stond zelfs op de dansvloer in actie. De jury bestond dat jaar uit zowel lokale helden als internationale toppers; zo jureerden onder anderen\u00a0<strong>B-Boy Bo \u201cBoDoes\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0uit Rotterdam en\u00a0<strong>Skychief (The Ruggeds)<\/strong>\u00a0het evenement. Roffa Breaking is in korte tijd uitgegroeid tot een begrip in de scene, met elke editie meer energie, talent en publiek.<\/p>\n<p>Hoewel er fanatiek gestreden wordt om de titel, draait Roffa Breaking niet alleen om winnen. De\u00a0<strong>community vibe<\/strong>\u00a0staat centraal. Breaking is van oudsher een cultuur van samenkomen en elkaar inspireren, en dat voel je op dit event.\u00a0<strong>Tijdens de battles wordt niet alleen gekeken, maar ook samen gedanst<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 in de pauzes is\u00a0<em>iedereen welkom in de cypher<\/em>\u00a0om los te gaan op de muziek. Jong en oud, beginner en pro, delen de dansvloer en leren van elkaar. Deze laagdrempelige sfeer maakt Roffa Breaking meer dan een wedstrijd; het is een ontmoetingsplek voor de hele breakdance-familie.<\/p>\n<p>Die focus op gemeenschap en kennisdeling komt niet uit de lucht vallen. Roffa Breaking is opgezet\u00a0<em>door<\/em>\u00a0de scene zelf \u2013 met initiatiefnemers als wereldkampioen\u00a0<strong>Menno van Gorp<\/strong>\u00a0(oprichter van Studio Blue Breaks) en andere Rotterdamse break-veteranen. Menno\u2019s missie via Studio Blue Breaks sluit naadloos aan: jongeren inspireren en generaties verbinden in de breakdance cultuur. Ook de nieuwe garde draagt daaraan bij; zo jureerde Bo \u201cBoDoes\u201d (ADHD Crew) vorig jaar nog als lokaal rolmodel tijdens Roffa Breaking.
